Hot summers can be a problem in schools due to excessive indoor temperatures. The rise in temperature can be aggravated by the design of many 1960’s and 1970’s buildings, especially the glass and concrete constructions.
High temperatures can affect staff and pupils causing physical discomfort, illness, and a drop in concentration levels. It is important that schools have a contingency plan to help cope with the heat.
Barnet's Safety, Health and Welfare (SHaW) have prepared some Hot Weather Guidance For Schools.
